Great news! The Eiffel Tower Shawl pattern is now up for sale on Ravelry.

Better news? The Tour de France starts this Saturday, July 3rd and with it the knitalong (KAL) contest for the Eiffel Tower Shawl.

I’ve finalized the categories, rules and prizes that I talked about earlier. There is a Eiffel Tower KAL group on Ravelry, and that’s the place to keep up on what’s going on and to post your finished projects for the prizes.

Not already a member of Ravelry? Well get on over there & sign up! It’s a great resource for yarn, patterns, troubleshooting along with all manner of non-knitting related stuff.

The categories are similar to those in the Tour de France. One person will win for each category, and will choose any ONE of the yarns in their category. See pictures at the bottom. The categories are:

Maillot Jaune – Yellow Jersey
Winner of the overall Tour de France. You have to complete the Eiffel Tower Shawl within the Tour de France (July 3 – 25) to be eligible.

Maillot Vert – Green Jersey – for the sprinters
For the speedy knitters, I’ll do a random draw from among the first 5 lace weight and first 5 fingering weight finishers to post in the Ravelry group.

Maillot Blanc – White Jersey – best “young” knitters
For those new-to-lace, or new-to-knitting. You can choose to identify yourself as a contestant for the white jersey, and if you complete the shawl during the Tour, you’ll be eligible for the draw for this prize.

Maillot à Pois Rouges – Polka Dot Jersey – mountains
For those who’ve overcome the most struggles on the way. Needle broke? Pet had an encounter with your WIP? This is for you, and readers will vote on this prize in its own thread in Ravelry.

Lanterne Rouge – “last” place
Not everyone who starts the Tour de France finishes, so anyone who starts the Tour but doesn’t finish within the deadline will be eligible for the Lanterne Rouge prize. Post your unfinished shawl to the Lantern Rouge thread in the Ravelry group before July 27th and you’ll be in for this draw.

The Red Devil – spectators
Not everyone has the time and space to compete in the Tour, but there will be a prize category for those who wish to follow along and cheer on the competitors. The inspiration is Didi Senft, a notorious spectator, bike-builder, and cycling fanatic. Prize: Any of the yarns available from the other categories after the winner takes their choice!

There are 3 ways to get an entry into the spectator prize draw:

1) subscribing to my mailing list (and if you’re already on it, great, you’re in!)
2) tweeting about the contest once between July 3 – 25 with the hashtag #EiffelKAL and a link to the pattern: http://bit.ly/EiffelShawl
3) blogging about the contest, the design, your participation in it, or similar, and sending me a Ravelry PM or email (nservant at gmail dot com) about it before end of day July 25th

Anyone can have up to 3 entries in the spectator prize draw!

And here are the prizes, grouped by category. Remember, the winner of each category gets to select one of the prizes in that group.
