Saturday spinning update – 5 down, 1 to go

I was feeling pretty good about my week. I spun the fourth (of 6) batts from the Cupcake Fiber Company. I did some knitting. I even took a couple of hours to spin up another sample from my December Phat Fiber box. I present 36 yards in 4 grams of 2 ply laceweight BFL “Raise Your Glass” from Stone And String Studio, which has mostly moved from Etsy to Artfire. I like the colours individually but they’re not something I would have thought of combining. Since it was a sample I just went for it & was quite pleased with the results.

If it was all so good, then what changed? An innocent (?) little comment from Cookie on a blog post asking how the spinning was going got me thinking. If I only got 1 batt done during each week it would be another 2 weeks of spinning before I could even think about plying. Perhaps I should spin some more. I started another batt on Friday night & finished rather late tonight. So now I’ve got 5 out of the 6 batts spun and I know I can get this last one done in the next week. Here they are:

Why am I waiting to ply even though I’ve had 3 batts spun for a week already? Well, thanks to the genius of Joan’s dying, they’re all slightly different. There are a few different colours in there and I want to wait until they’re all done to make sure that each 3 ply skein is as evenly matched as possible. I’ve got a few darker & lighter singles.  Oooh, I’m so excited about how this is going to look as yarn! Perhaps I’ll even start plying this coming week…

Oh, and if you want some cupcakes of your own, Joan’s got lots in the shop now & she posted a teaser picture on Ravelry of all the boxes involved in Sunday’s update. It’s almost Sunday now, so perhaps you should have a look.

It was an innocent question. :p

Beautiful spinning! I’m looking forward to seeing your finished yarn. Although, it’s totally not a race and you’ll get to it when you get to it.

Joan’s cupcakes are ALMOST enough to make me take up spinning. Then I remember that would take away from my knitting time…
