It’s St. Patrick’s Day! The limerick contest ends today! To win beautiful merino/silk lace yarn from Indigodragonfly, my Clover Shawl pattern, and some lucky stitch markers from Francine ends today, leave your limerick as a comment on the contest post or in this thread in my Ravelry group. I’ll do my best to announce the winner tomorrow.
Since it’s St. Patrick’s Day, I’m going to start with something green and handspun. My square Clover Shawl is finished and blocked! It’s light and lovely and I’m so happy I knit with handspun. The shawl is about 38″ across and 91 grams with 6 repeats of the second chart.
This week’s experiment in spinning was something new to me: bamboo. This was some rayon from carbonized bamboo from Louet. I spun 60 grams into about 125 yards of chain-plied yarn. The resulting skein is about 57 grams.
This was all a bit weird for me, but not in a bad way. The fiber is kind of squeaky and so is the resulting yarn. It’s got a bit of a sheen. I have no idea how it’ll knit up, but I’m sure I’ll be curious enough to find out. It’s not my best spinning ever, as I found the fiber a little hard to draft as evenly as I usually do. Now on to the next new thing!
Beautiful lace and lovely handspun! I think bamboo is one of those things that you have work at in order to figure out.
