Saturday spinning update: copper

I finally worked up the courage to take a go at spinning the amazing silk I bought fromĀ Briar Rose at Knitting Camp.

It’s matching my goal almost exactly. I’ve got very fine singles and when I let them curl back on each other I can see it’s going to be a nice shiny 2 ply yarn.

This is my pinkie finger. Now yes, I do have large hands, but still, I’m happy with this:

Of course it’ll take me ages to spin the super fine singles. I need to dedicate at least an hour a day this week to get through it and stay consistent. Hopefully the reminder that I want to show progress next week will keep me going!

It’s a Briar Rose week. I’m using BR’s Sonoma for a KAL starting later this week (if you get BR’s newsletter, there’s a special offer in connection with that), and I just read Franklin Habit’s blog in which he had a link to BR too. Spooky! Only a few more weeks and I’ll have my new wheel. Then I’ll need you to give me a lesson, although I guarantee you I won’t be spinning thread anytime soon.

That stuff is beautiful!!!! Someday I hope I can spin half that well. I’m still using the large batts that Wabi Sabi sells for $6 as practice ;) Haven’t even tried combed fiber yet.
