Hat update

So I finally finished the hat last Wednesday. Here’s what it looks like on (yes, it’s big, but she likes it & wants to wear it, so who cares, right?):

Pattern: Pink Lady from Knitty’s Winter ’03 edition
Yarn: Sirdar Snuggly 4-ply + various bits of Paton’s Pixie (ugh) left over from other kiddie projects (blankets, scarves, bunnies, etc.) Finished off 3 or 4 little balls that I didn’t have the heart to throw away.
Needle size: Dunno. Small but not 2.25mm – probably 2.75mm dpns.
Pattern modifications: Knit without seaming – cast on & increased, knit in the round all the way down, knit the earflaps from the hat brim down rather than the reverse & doing 3 needle bindoff. Knit the Pixie stuff in a little 2-stitch wide edging around the earflaps to match the brim edge. Avoided the garter stitch brim & earflaps (did ribbing & stockinette instead). Basically avoided any sewing other than weaving ends in. Worked like a charm.

I haven’t done tassels yet. It’s been suggested that little ears on top would be cool – perhaps triangle cat ears would be cute. We’ll see.

Now back to the big mohair monstrosity. Of course a hat without matching mittens won’t do. I’ll have to work on that.
