It’s been years since I’ve knit a pair of socks. According to Ravelry I knit a pair in 2009. Last year my daughter came into my LYS with me and spotted Sirdar’s Smiley Stripes in rainbow colours and begged me to get some to make her some socks. Louise didn’t help by insisting that it could be done in that yarn (arrgh, DK bamboo).

So now, a year later, after some swatching in one of Cat’s classes I was ready to start. I did a star toe as suggested by Cat and fitted them as I went, doing a Sweet Tomato Heel. The stripes made it easy to do the second sock like the first, and now my daughter finally has her socks:

I’d much rather knit with a springier material because I find that such a high bamboo content hurts my fingers after a while even though I’m a very loose knitter. Thank goodness my daughter agreed to ankle socks! I did wind up a few skeins of proper sock yarn in preparation for the recent classes, so perhaps I will finally knit some more pairs of socks.
