I first hinted at a project based on King Childeric’s bees a couple of weeks ago. I previewed the prizes for the KAL for this pattern more recently. Here’s the finished object, modeled beautifully by Francine:
And here’s what it looks like laid flat, to show you the curved shape:
Childeric’s Bees is the pattern for my Tour de France KAL this year, starting on June 30th and finishing on July 22nd. Keep an eye on my Ravelry group for the details on how to participate. The pattern on sale for $4 for the duration of the Tour, moving up to $6 afterwards.
What will you need? The estimate is 650 to 900 yards of fingering weight yarn or 625 to 800 yards of lace weight yarn, but that estimate is based on 14 bees, and you could get a nice scarf from 11 bees.
My laceweight version made from about 55 grams of Malabrigo Lace (mmmm, soft) is blocking tonight and I’ll get finished pictures up as soon as it’s ready to go.
I had to do a little research to learn the source of the name for your design. Always a voyage of discovery when I read your blog!
